Profile:

Cynthia Ledgley has owned and operated the firm of Ledgley Law since 2001. Cynthia has practiced law since 1987 and restricts her practice exclusively to Intellectual Property Law. Cynthia is registered to act before the Canadian Intellectual Property Office as a registered patent agent and a registered trade-mark agent. Cynthia also represents Canadian applicants and businesses directly before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

A Fellow of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC), Cynthia is also a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA). Cynthia is a past-chair of the Biotechnology Legislation Committee of IPIC. She is a representative on the Joint Liaison Committee Patents between IPIC and the management at CIPO and has held this position for more than 10 years. Cynthia was honoured to receive an IPIC Special Recognition Award for her hard work and valued contributions to IPIC.

Cynthia has published a number of articles in the Canadian Intellectual Property Review and is recognized in the profession for her knowledge and expertise in biotechnology patents. In addition to co-authoring three articles in the Journal of Immunology on the regulation of human antibody production, she has presented first author papers to the American Pediatric Society and at the FASEB Society of Experimental Biologists.

Cynthia established the “Mechanical Tutorials” in Toronto in 2000 and, for 8 years, assisted in teaching these tutorials annually to patent agent candidates preparing to write the Canadian Patent Agent Examinations. Rarely granted, the firm of Ledgley Law achieved the grant of a compulsory licence to permit the manufacture and sale of a child’s specialized car seat on behalf of one of its clients.
